The Huey Girls

We are thrilled to be here in Jinja, but we are especially thrilled that our daughters can be with us. They have been forced to make lots of adjustments, but they have been wonderful. They have been involved with all of our activities, so far . . . and they have risked a lot of new things. Their expressions of homesickness have been minimal, and, with a few minor exceptions, they have been very patient . . . and culturally sensitive. We are quite proud of them!

In search of a true African experience, Allyson has been flexible and rather adventurous. She even got a ride on a boda-boda, and thought it was a great way to travel! She seems to be absorbing this place pretty well, and has been recording her impressions in a journal. She does well interacting with people and having fun with them . . . especially people like little Adam Bogle.

Caroline has been her usual self, which means she that she has been quiet. But she doesn't mind meeting new people, shaking hands and hanging around the action. She is clearly absorbing the culture, and it is always interesting to hear her brief and witty observations about the things that she sees. Her favorite thing, it would seem, has been shopping for gifts to take home to her friends!
.
What can we say about Annika? She has been timid about a few things (and perhaps rightly so), but her affection for people is continually evident. Among the three sisters, she is most likely to start conversations with anyone we meet, and she keeps asking questions. She has been inspired by the bead-making skills of Irene Kimeze, and is ready to make thousands of necklaces.
.
We aren't necessarily trying to turn our children into missionaries, but we hope that we are teaching them to be missional. We want them, first of all, to know that the world is bigger than Oakland County, Michigan, and we want them to get a global perspective on human existence.
..
It's a really tall order, but . . . thanks to your support . . . it is part of our experience here in Jinja.
