We are really impressed with the Source Cafe. Its name is relevant to Jinja, of course, because the source of the Nile is a local attraction. But it is also designed to be a resource for the community. It has food, coffee, Internet access, gifts, and a library. The Jinja church has its assemblies in the connecting courtyard, and the Busoga Bible School meets in other adjoining spaces..
And . . . we might add that it is a very classy joint. Its outdoor decor is highlighted with a stunning bouganvillea tree, and its entrances are highlighted with beautiful carved doors. The food is wonderful (we strongly recommend the Nile Delight), and there is a nice outdoor seating area, where you can watch the world go by. Internet customers have plenty of space, and aren't packed into the room like sardines. We also feel partial to the people who work here!
..
It is not surprising to hear that Forrest Whitaker ate his lunches at the Source, while he was filming The Last King of Scotland. It is listed as an attraction in the Ugandan tourist guides, and it does a lot of business. It is especially busy on Saturdays, and is particularly popular with your backpacking and Nile-rafting types of people..

The Source began back in 1997, and was inspired by Mark Moore. With the help of people like Danny Cagnet, it became established, expanded its facilities, and now exists as a part of the ministry here in Jinja. Its profits provide a measure of assistance to the local churches, and, in a place where jobs are precious, it provides significant employment opportunities.

Be sure to stop by, the next time you're in Jinja.
